Like something mom would make for an afternoon snack. Basic ingredients and easy to make when you don’t have a ton of time.
Ingredients
- 1 egg, white and yolk separated
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1.5 cups sifted white flour
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 1/2 cup chopped dates
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F.
- Mix the egg yolk, brown sugar with the molasses. Once creamed, add in the sour cream. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and ginger. Sift dry mixture into the egg mixture. Add in nuts, dates and vanilla and stir until combined.
- Pour into greased and floured pan 8×12.
- Bake for 15 minutes.
- Cool completely.
- For the frosting, beat the egg until light and fluffy. Add in the salt and 1/2 cup powdered sugar. Finish off with the lemon juice.
- Frost the bars and cut into pieces for serving.
